The Macedonian Football Federation (FFM) said Tuesday that two postponed matches in the Albanian-majority town of Tetovo would go ahead despite ongoing ethnic tensions.
The matches were postponed last week after a number of clashes between Macedonians and ethnic Albanians which left more than a dozen people injured in Skopje and Tetovo in previous weeks.
Tetovo police spokesman Marijan Josifovski told AFP the situation “is more relaxed compared to a week ago.” “We now estimate that the matches can take place,” Josifovski said.
On late Wednesday Teteks, from Tetovo, will now meet Skopje side Napredok. On Thursday FK Skendija, Macedonia’s biggest Albanian football club, is due to meet top Macedonian team Vardar Skopje.
