Igor Mitreski to retire from national team

After the upcoming games against Armenia and Slovakia, Igor Mitreski will retire from the national team.

Defender Igor Mitreski has already informed manager John Toshack that he will retire following the games against Armenia and Slovakia. As Mitreski told Makedonski Sport, "It's time to retire and give the chance to the younger players. The duels against Armenia and Slovakia are my last matches for the national team of Macedonia. I also relayed the information to manager John Toshack. I want to spend more time with my family. I have been part of the national team for 11 years and I'm disappointed that we didn't reach better results with this generation."

The 32-year-old Igor Mitreski has made 70 appearances for Macedonia and scored one goal. He was a regular for a long time, partnering Nikolce Noveski in the centre of the Macedonian defense. However, he has recently lost his place in the starting lineup to Vance Sikov.

Mitreski did play for the senior national team in the test match against the U21 team on Tuesday but it is unknown at this point whether Toshack plans on using Mitreski in the EURO 2012 qualifiers against Armenia and Slovakia. Igor currently plays his club football in Azerbaijan with Neftçi where he is a teammate of fellow Macedonian Slavco Georgievski.
