The Census began Saturday at 8 a.m. The aim of the census is to provide full, high-quality, updated and internationally comparable statistical data on the population, households and dwellings in a country, in order to meet the needs of data users on national and international levels.

Aggregated data obtained from data collected during a census is used for the following purposes: analysis and evaluation of the status and trends in the economic and social development; planning of development in the economy, education, health care, housing and other economic and social areas; monitoring the implementation of the plans; scientific researches; statistical purposes; etc.

Personal data collected by the Census, are confidential data. The Obligation for protection of personal data concerns all the participants in the census activities regardless of the base basis of their engagement. Personal census data are not to be used for any kind of decisions related to the person to whom the data belong.

Eurostat follows the process of preparation and realization of Macedonia's Census of Population, Households and Dwellings, supporting it through – among other activities - a peer assessment implemented by an independent high level team set up in October 2010.

Director of the State Statistical Office Blagica Novakovska and Pieter Everaers, Director of External cooperation, communication and key indicators at Eurostat, will hold a press conference Saturday on census activities.

Macedonia's Government at a session on Friday completed the formation of the State Census Commission (SCC) after accepting resignations submitted by now former members of the Commission: Abdulmenaf Bexheti, Vesna Janevska, Marija Taseva, Vanco Angelovski and Fauzi Skenderi.

The Government appointed Bujar Osmani, Lazar Trajcev, Zivko Pejkovski, Orce Todorovski and Artan Grubi as new SCC members. Slobodanka Gievska is the new SCC president, while Bujar Osmani will serve as its vice-president.

Vesna Janevska, the former SCC president, resigned from her post this afternoon, because "the forthcoming census is to be subjected to falsification."

"Today around 2:00 p.m. I submitted an irrevocable resignation to the Government of Macedonia simply because I deem and believe that in the Republic of Macedonia another census falsification is planned according to my current findings. My colleagues from the State Census Commission with Albanian and Turkish origin have left no space for trust that this census is to be held in an appropriate fashion. We disagreed on essential issues, such as the use of a copy of an ID or passport during the population count, which is absolutely against the law and Eurostat methodology," Janevska told a press conference on Friday.
