Over one billion euro has been invested in infrastructure in the past few years. Despite the crisis, the situation in the region, the Macedonian government makes big investment in infrastructure.
Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski addressed the celebration of 45 years anniversary of the establishment of the Association for Roads of Republic of Macedonia, where he indicated that in the past years have crossed the commitments to invest in infrastructure that create benefits for all.
Construction is a major driver for the Macedonian economy and creates new jobs through government conditions – road to be build businesses that will hire at least 51 percent of Macedonian workers.
Gruevski said that from 2006 until 2013 were built, reconstructed or rehabilitated over 1,000 km of roads. Reconstructed and constructed 469 kilometers of highways worth 92 million euro and 302 local roads with a length of 586 kilometers whose construction and reconstruction cost 45 million euro. For the following years, he announced major investments in infrastructure across Macedonia.
- In 2013 were started the construction projects and reconstruction of 62 km of roads, worth 32 million and 680 thousands euro. In the 2014-2015 will begin projects for construction, reconstruction, or rehabilitation of 63 kilometers of new roads worth 35 million euro. They refer to the sections Veles-Katlanovo, Miladinovci-Kumanovo, Negotino-Demir Kapija and Smokvica-Gevgelija and completing the section at the level of highway. They were preceded by the construction of the ring road around Skopje and part of the highway “Alexander the Great”. All these plans do not include three major projects: construction of highway Demir Kapija-Smokvica with length of 28 kilometers, highway Miladinovci- veti Nikole-Shtip with 47 km and highway Kichevo-Ohrid with 57 km, said Gruevski.
The total length of these three highways is 132 kilometers, and worth around 790 million euro.
-These highways, along with other local and regional roads will be constructed and reconstructed in the period 2014-2018 and they represent investment of over one billion euro. Such surge of infrastructure investment has never happened in the country.
At the celebration of the anniversary the Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski addressed the audience and said he had allocated 30 million euro for road sections and reconstruction of bridges across Macedonia. He pointed out that one of the most important investments in infrastructure is Corridors 8 and 10, where it is the works are going on with full speed.
