The Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia has the highest share of women MPs among all the Balkan countries, Bulgarian novinite.com reports.
According to the World Bank report, 34.1% of Macedonia's MPs are women. Second is Serbia with 33.2% of female parliament members. In Bulgaria, 24.6% of the parliament seats are taken by women, 23.8% in Croatia and 21.4% in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Romania has the lowest percentage of female MPs – 13.3%. In Kosovo, a lot needs to be done yet to create an equalized society, despite the recent progress, said the Deputy Prime Minister, Edita Tahiri.
Most Balkan countries have passed legislation on gender equality in accordance with the EU regulations and principles, however, not all of them are implementing the rules, underlines novinite.com.
