Macedonia has received strong support for its NATO bid by two leading US Senators, John McCain and Chris Murphy, who assessed that after several NATO summits that did not involve enlargements, the reputation of this institution is call into question.
During yesterday’s Center for Strategic and International Studies Transatlantic Forum in Washington D.C., in response to a question about the role Congress can play on Greece-Macedonia bilateral challenges by United Macedonian Diaspora President Metodija A. Koloski, Senator John McCain stated that he found the Greek position on Macedonia’s name to be just incomprehensible. Senator McCain is a recipient of the 2011 UMD International Freedom Award.
Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut, and Chairman of the Europe Subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee stated that the Macedonia name dispute should not impede the larger picture of NATO enlargement, and that he will encourage resolution so that Macedonia can join NATO as soon as possible.
