Macedonian Airports Record Major Growth in Number of Passengers

"Alexander the Great" and "St. Paul the Apostle", the two airports managed by TAV Macedonia, have recorded a steady growth in the number of passengers, in the first half of 2014, Zoran Krstevski, general manager of "TAV Macedonia" announced. 

From January to June their services were used by 559,779 passengers, which is an increase of 18,5 percent compared to last year.

"In Europe the rise in the number of passengers is between five and six percent, whereas Macedonian airports in the first six months of the year have noted an increase that is three times greater."Wizz Air" opened its base at Skopje Airport and the two planes of the company have begun flying to new destinations such as Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels and Cologne. Also, "AlItalia" reopened its direct line from Rome to Skopje. Since the beginning of the year to date, the top five destinations are Istanbul, Zurich, Vienna, London and Malmo," Krstevski stated.

According to the general manager of TAV Macedonia, the airports have recorded major rise in the number of passengers.

"As a result of direct flights to many destinations from Skopje airport, the number of passengers, not only from Macedonia, but also from other countries has increased. In order to maintain growth in the number of passengers since we started to manage the two Macedonian airports, TAV Macedonia and TAV Airports, continue with promotional and marketing activities," Krstevski highlighted, adding that there have been improvements also in the number of flights and aircraft movements.

Skopje Airport "Alexander the Great" has won the "Best Airport in Europe" award two times in a row, in the category of airports under two million passengers, awarded by the Airports Council International, the global platform of the airport operators.
