Over the last year, the total value of the exchange between Macedonia and countries from abroad was 12.2 billion US dollars. Exports registered growth of 15.6 percents and imports 10.3 percents. According to the State Statistical Office, the export value of goods in the Republic of Macedonia in January – December 2014 was 4,933,845 thousand dollars, and import 7,276,729 thousand US dollars. Import coverage by export was 67.8 percents. The trade deficit in the period January to December 2014 was 2,342,884 thousand dollars, reports MIA.
Trade exchange according to products shows that the most significant export is noted at catalysts with precious metal or precious metal compounds, nickel, sets the ignition wires and the like, for vehicles, aircraft or ships, iron and steel products (flat-rolled products) and clothes.
In imports, the most prevalent are petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude), platinum and platinum alloys, unwrought or in powder, electricity and other metals of the platinum group and their alloys, unwrought or in powder form.
Last year, Macedonia mostly exported to EU countries 76.6 percents and in the Western Balkans 14 percents. The largest share in imports have the EU countries with 63.5 percents.
According to the total volume of foreign trade, Macedonia had most important trade with Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Serbia, and Italy. The total foreign trade exchange, 51.7 percents is done with these countries.
