It takes four hours for a foreign or domestic investor to register a company, the tax rate is 10%, among the lowest in Europe. If you add Macedonia's educated workforce in the mix, it is no surprise that the country is becoming a hotbed for direct foreign investments - says Italian newspaper Libero in its editorial on Macedonia, calling the country the "Balkan's pearl". Libero, to its Italian readers explains that if a company invests in an infrastructure and hires over 100 full time staff, the company is not obligated to pay utilities and has a tax reprieve upward to 500,000 euros. "The clever plan to attract and keep foreign companies is devised perfectly by the Macedonian Government, in fact, Italian company Condotte has already announced a 15m euro investment" says Libero adding the country was ranked #22 out of 183 countries by "Doing Business Report 2012". The Ministry of Information Society and Administration has announced a call for best e-shops, with entrepreneurs having the best business plans getting a website and free hosting for a year. The five e-shops with best results in the first year of operations will be additionally rewarded with free hosting for a second year and e-catalogue for 50 products. All Macedonian nationals and legal entities registered in the trade field are eligible to apply at the call, which is open until July 15.  

Macedonia was placed in the third pool ahead of the upcoming drawing for European handball championship in Denmark. As expected, the top tier teams together with the hosts were placed in Pool 1. EHF wouldn't be the EHF if it didn't stir controversy. How is Czech republic placed in Pool 2, ahead of Macedonia, Hungary and Poland... we'll never know. Macedonia with Belarus, Hungary and Poland were placed in Pool 3.  Out of this, the best group Macedonia can wish for would being drawn with Serbia, Czech, and Austria. About twenty Turkish companies from TUMSIAD businessmen association pay Monday a visit to Macedonia in order to meet with counterparts from diverse fields. The Macedonian-Turkish business forum and meetings will be held in the Economic Chamber of Macedonia. TUMSIAD has over 12,000 members and 54 branch offices in Turkey, along with 3,000 members and seven centers across Europe.

Mazedonien hat sich als letzte von 15 Mannschaften für die Handball-EM der Männer in Dänemark qualifiziert. Der EM-Fünfte gewann am Sonntagabend mit 26:19 (14:10) gegen Portugal und sicherte sich dadurch Platz zwei in der Qualifikationsgruppe 1 hinter Spanien. Als bester Dritter der sieben Ausscheidungsgruppen nimmt Russland trotz einer 25:30 (12:12)-Niederlage in Österreich an der EM vom 12. bis 26. Januar 2014 teil. Die deutsche Mannschaft hatte als Dritter der Gruppe 2 erstmals eine EM-Teilnahme verpasst. Die Auslosung der Vorrundengruppen erfolgt am Freitag um 18.30 Uhr in Herning. Erzgebrige Aue mit zwei Probespieler, bei einem handelt es sich um den in Deutschland aufgewachsenen Mazedonier Ivan Ristovski , der bereits von 2009 bis 2011 in der zweiten Mannschaft des FC Erzgebirge spielte und in der vergangenen Saison in der ersten Liga seines Heimatlandes für den FK Rabotnicki Skopje in 30 Partien zwei Tore erzielte und drei Treffe vorbereitete. Der 22-jährige Ristovski fühlt sich im zentralen Mittelfeld am wohlsten, kann aber auch auf den Halbpositionen spielen. Ebenfalls am besten im Mittelfeldzentrum aufgehoben ist der abdere Kandidat auch auf der linken Außenbahn einsetzbare Tscheche Jacob Lensky, der vor eineinhalb Jahren eigentlich sein Karriereende verkündet hatte, nun aber mit erst 24 Jahren nochmals angreifen will.  Ob Ristovski oder Lensky Chancen auf einen Vertrag haben, ist bislang offen. Klar dürfte aber sein, dass aufgrund der gleichen Position maximal einer der beiden kommen wird.

   Industriezone Skopje 1  Mazedonien bemüht sich um die Steigerung seiner Attraktivität als Investitionsstandort und wirbt um ausländische Investitionen, unter anderem auch durch die Errichtung von Industrie- und Technologiezonen (TIDZ). Im vergangenen Sommer hatte die freie Wirtschaftszone Bunardzik es unter die 50 weltweit führenden Freihandelszonen der Zukunft 2012 / 2013 geschafft. In einer vom Londoner Fachmagazin für ausländische Direktinvestitionen fDi veröffentlichten Rangliste wurde Bunardzik auf Platz 47 gesetzt. Im Rennen waren 600 Investitionsstandorte aus insgesamt 120 Ländern.  Derzeit verfügt Mazedonien über vier Industrie- und Technologiezonen, von denen zwei sich in der Nähe der Hauptstadt Skopje befinden, eine in Tetovo und eine in Stip. Der spanische Meister FC Barcelona hat die Verpflichtung von Kiril Lazarov offiziell bekanntgegeben. Der Makedonier wechselt von Atletico Madrid zu den Katalanen und unterschrieb einen Vertrag über zwei Jahre. Barcelona ist für den makedonischen Nationalspieler Lazarov in Spanien bereits die zweite Station nach Ciudad Real beziehungsweise Atletico Madrid. Im Jahr 2010 kam der Linkshänder zu Ciudad Real, ein Jahr später wurde das Team zu Atletico umbenannt. Davor spielte Lazarov für RK Pelister Bitola in Makedonien,  RK Zagreb/Kroatien und KC Veszprém/Ungarn, ehe er vor seiner ersten Station in Spanien nochmals nach Zagreb wechselte.  In der abgelaufenen Saison hat Lazarov mit 157 Toren den dritten Rang in der Torschützenliste der spanischen Liga Asobal belegt.

Mit dem Trainerwechsel wird beim SV Mattersburg ein Umbruch eingeleitet. So trennt sich der Bundesliga-Absteiger von Ilco Naumoski. Der Mazedonier war seit 2005 ein Fixpunkt im Kader der Burgenländer, kam in der letzten Saisonhälfte aber häufig nur mehr von der Bank oder verletzungsbedingt gar nicht zum Einsatz. Die 12 jeweils aus zwei Lehrlingen bestehenden Teams stellten ihre praktischen Fähigkeiten und theoretischen Kenntnisse unter Beweis. Der Sieg ging nach einem harten Wettkampf heuer wieder an das österreichische Team. Die Lehrlinge von der Landesberufsschule Graz 5 holten den Sieg vor Litauen und Slowenien. Der Geschäftsführer der Knauf GmbH, Otto Ordelt, war Sieg des österreichischen Teams begeistert: „Wir können die Qualität im Trockenbau nur sichern, wenn wir eine gute Ausbildung für unsere Lehrlinge im Trockenbau garantieren. Es zeigt sich, dass wir mit unserem dualen Ausbildungssystem auf gutem Wege sind. Im Mai 2013 wurde Zoran Zaev zum neuen Vorsitzenden der größten Oppositionspartei in der Republik Makedonien, des Sozialdemokratischen Bundes von Makedonien (SDSM) gewählt. Im April war der bisheriger Vorsitzende des SDSM, Branko Crvenkovski, zurückgetreten. Zoran Zaev wurde am 08.10.1974 im makedonischen Strumica geboren und studierte Wirtschaftswissenschaften an der Universität Skopje. Im Jahre 1996 trat er dem SDSM bei und war von 2003 bis 2005 Abgeordneter im makedonischen Parlament. Seit dem Jahr 2005 ist er Bürgermeister in seiner Geburtsstadt Strumica. Im September 2008 wurde er als Übergangskandidat bereits Vorsitzender des SDSM, bis ihm im Mai 2009 Branko Crvenkovski nach seiner Amtszeit als makedonischer Staatspräsident (2004 – 2009)  nachfolgte. Macedonia's football team has jumped six places in the international football federation's (FIFA) world rankings, published on Thursday, and ranks 78th. Still, Macedonia being 78th in the list has the lowest rankings in the qualifying group for the 2014 World Cup. Croatia at 4th place has the highest ranking in the group, Belgium is 12th, Serbia 36th, Wales 45th and Scotland is 74th. The teams of Spain, Germany, Argentine, Croatia, the Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, Italy, England, Ecuador and Russia round up the top ten.  

In a rather shocking fashion, the opposition party (SDSM) gathered 350,000 votes (double from the previous elections) in a historic high voter turnout. The elections ended without any incidents, and to make things even more surprising, the vicious opponents (VMRO & SDSM) barking at each other just hours ago, had compliments for each other near midnight as the SDSM congratulated the VMRO-DPMNE on their electoral victory. Baffling how nice they were to each other. Someone is going to Hollywood! There were no disputes from the SDSM, in fact they were thrilled to lose the way they did. Radmila Sekerinska and Branko Crvenkovski appeared with ear-to-ear smiles as if they had just won the elections. Greece collapsed economically, terrorists are roaming from Athens to Solun killing journalists and politicians at any location they please, including their homes. Citizens are on 24/7 nation-wide strikes and gasoline outages makes Greece look like Somalia (apology to Somalia, I understand it’s easy to get gasoline there). The latest out of Athens is that the army is patrolling gas stations? Last week, Spain’s unemployment hit 20%, and it is expected to collapse just like Greece. Russia and Macedonia agreed on Thursday to collaborate in the fight against drugs for the next three years, Russia’s drug enforcement agency said. A bilateral join action plan was signed on the sidelines of the 30th annual International Drug Enforcement Conference (IDEC) in Moscow by Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service (FSNK) and Macedonia’s Interior Ministry. The parties will exchange information on drug trafficking, coordinate and implement search and enforcement operations and share expertise, the FSNK said in a statement. The document was signed by FSNK deputy director Oleg Safonov and Macedonia’s Interior Minister Gordana Jankulovska. The three-day IDEC opened in Moscow on Wednesday, bringing together drug law enforcement officials from more than 100 countries.
