Trichkovski agrees to terms with Club Brugge Trichkovski (R) has agreed to join Club Brugge Ivan Trichkovski has agreed to contract terms with Belgian side Club Brugge with the transfer likely to become official next week since Ivan is expecting the birth of his first child tomorrow. (MIA) - As of Friday, Macedonia will take over the year-long presidency of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP). One of our priorities will be to improve the image of the region, stated Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki after a ministerial meeting of SEECP member states held Thursday in Belgrade. He noted that Macedonia in the course of the presidency would focus mainly on economic cooperation and the creation of a perception about the entire region as an attractive destination for investments and tourists. " I think we should move from a phase mainly associated with conflicts, blockades and obstructions into a new phase of cooperation, progress and mutual support. The Russian national basketball team beat Macedonia 80-61 in Lithuania on Thursday in its first warm-up game for next month’s Olympic qualifying tournament. Macedonia led 35-30 at the end of the second quarter, but Russia stormed back to take the lead in the third before going 24-12 in the fourth. Russia center Sasha Kaun finished as top scorer with 14 points. On Saturday, Russia is to play Greece in Kaunas, Lithuania, before further warm-up games in the United States against Lithuania and Britain. Russia failed to qualify outright for the Olympics after losing to France at the semifinal stage of EuroBasket 2011. Macedonian national train operator MZ Transport has announced details of a planned fleet renewal programme. Tenders are to be called in the third quarter of 2012 for the supply of up to four three-car diesel multiple-units, two three-car electric multiple-units, 150 wagons, the rehabilitation of three electric locomotives and the provision of related consultancy services. The €59m project is to be funded through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development.

The current Karpaty manager Pavel Kucherov reiterated today in an interview that Macedonian international Martin Bogatinov will be the starting keeper heading into the 2012/13 season. Pavel Kucherov served as the interim manager of Karpaty for several games last season, but was replaced at the start of the second half by Volodymyr Sharan, who was then quickly sacked due to bad results, and veteran coach Yuriy Dyachuk-Stavytskyi who served in the manager role until the end of the season. Karpaty barely avoided the drop by finishing one spot above the relegation zone, in 14th place out of 16 teams. Foreign Affairs Minister Nikola Poposki pays Tuesday a working visit to the Kingdom of Spain, where he is planned to meet his Spanish counterpart José Manuel García-Margallo y Marfil. Interlocutors are expected to discuss issues related to the overall development of countries' relations and cooperation as well as ways to improve them, MoFA said in a press release. Talks will also focus on Macedonia's aspirations to join EU and NATO. Country's hopes for Spanish strong support in the integration process is expected to be conveyed. Although Skopje residents would vehemently disagree, the Macedonian capital is the cheapest city to live in Europe according to a study of the cost of living in the world prepared by the global consulting company Mercer, French media reports. Moscow is the most expensive capital city in Europe, followed by Geneva, Zurich, Bern and Oslo. Tokyo is the most expensive city in the world with the Pakistani city of Karachi hitting the bottom of the list. Skopje is ranked 207th in the list. Tirana (205th) and Sarajevo (201st) are more expensive than Skopje. Mercer's study was complied after analysing over 200 products and services, such as rent prices, public transport, entertainment, food, products for personal and household hygiene, clothing, etc. Results from the study are used by international companies and governments from all over the world in order to determine compensations for their employees when they are sent to live abroad.

Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska – Milevska is this year's winner of prestigious Grand Prix award for Cultural Management, which is presented by the International Academy Mihai Eminescu. The awards are presented every year to persons that made outstanding contributions to culture at national and international level. The founders and members of the academy are also two Nobel Prize laureates, Ministry of Culture said in a press release. The award will be granted to Kanceska – Milevska next month at the ceremony that will be organised by the Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Romania to the Republic of Macedonia. Slovenia's leading energy company Petrol is interested in buying the 16.44% stake of Skopje's district heating utility Toplifikacija that is being offered for sale by Macedonian commercial bank NLB Tutunska Banka, daily Utrinski Vesnik reported, quoting unofficial information. The stake comprises 74,000 shares and will be sold through a public bourse auction under the "all or nothing" rule. The auction is scheduled for June 12. The shares are offered at a starting unit price of MKD 3,079 (EUR 50), which puts the total value of the stake at MKD 227.8mn. Meanwhile, the daily further reports that Petrol is interested in becoming the majority shareholder of the Macedonian utility and is ready to pay about EUR 14mn for the controlling share package.

Servicemen from Bulgaria's military base 32 990 in Plovdiv are going to participate in the international military drills "Balkan Livex" 2012 in Macedonia, the Bulgarian Defense Ministry announced Saturday. The Balkan Livex 2012 drills will feature participants from the special forces of all Balkan nations. Bulgaria will take part with 14 servicemen from the Special Forces detachment of the Bulgarian Army. The Balkan Livex exercise will take place on the training ground in Macedonia's Krivolak. The decline of Macedonia's industrial production is a result of Europe's recession and in order to mitigate its consequences the Government will introduce new measures, which also include an injection of fresh EUR100 million in support of small, medium enterprises and EUR350 million of capital investments, foreseen by the budget rebalance, Vice-Premier and FinMin Zoran Stavreski said Thursday at a press conference. Seventeen EU countries have registered a decline of the industrial production, some of them more severe than Macedonia's one, Stavreski said. "Naturally it doesn't mean that we are free from concern. We have been monitoring the developments and remain committed to introduce new and keep applying some of the previous measures that proven to be efficent," Stavreski said.

Macedonia's women national team after four year bregak managed to book its ticket to the European National championship in Netherlands after beating Turkey tonight in front of packed arena in Skopje. The red and yellow started the match on a high note, taking full control of the pace and playing solid in defense which resulted in early 4-2 lead. However, as time went on, the Turkish ladies lead by former Kometal GP player Jeliz Ozel got back in the match and tied the score at 11-11 in the 28th minute. Elena Georgievska was playing very well and single handedly managed to turn the result and grab a 13-12 lead going into half time.  The second half started a bit shaky for the ladies in red and yellow with the visiting team hanging around at 15-15. Southeast European Times reported that after the EU launched an investigation into whether exporters of welded steel pipes and profiles from Turkey, Macedonia and Ukraine are selling their products to the European market at prices lower than those of European manufacturers, the three countries have turned the tables, accusing the Union is practicing unprincipled protectionism. The investigation was initiated on the basis of an appeal to the Union from several European steel pipe manufacturers. They asked for a probe to determine whether the countries' exports had inflicted damage on the industry within the Union. Mr Mite Shapkovski, the owner of the Metalopromet factory in Strumica, told SETimes that “If the EU imposes a ban on Macedonian producers for export to Europe, we believe it will adversely affect our business.
