The Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia has the highest share of women MPs among all the Balkan countries, Bulgarian novinite.com reports. According to the World Bank report, 34.1% of Macedonia's MPs are women. Second is Serbia with 33.2% of female parliament members. In Bulgaria, 24.6% of the parliament seats are taken by women, 23.8% in Croatia and 21.4% in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Romania has the lowest percentage of female MPs – 13.3%. In Kosovo, a lot needs to be done yet to create an equalized society, despite the recent progress, said the Deputy Prime Minister, Edita Tahiri. Most Balkan countries have passed legislation on gender equality in accordance with the EU regulations and principles, however, not all of them are implementing the rules, underlines novinite.com.

A laboratory for detection of food products treated with ionizing radiation will begin operating soon at the Faculty for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology FEIT in Skopje. "For the time being, the lab will be only used to inspect products entering the Macedonian market, exposed to ionizing radiation treatment. We also plan to procure an irradiation device which will enhance the quality of foodstuffs," the Project Coordinator Hristina Spasovska stated. Food irradiation, or the application of ionizing radiation to food, is a technology that improves the safety and extends the shelf life of products by reducing or eliminating microorganism and insects. Furniture Fair 2014 The furniture industry has increased this year. This is confirmed by this year’s jubilee 40th annual International Furniture Fair that will have a record number of participants from the country. According to the organizers the number of domestic companies, retailers and furniture manufacturers is increased by 20 percent. 180 domestic and foreign companies and 430 brands representatives from tomorrow until 30 March will present their products in 10 halls. The program includes an exhibition titled “Luminosity” – Living smart on a Swedish way, by the renowned Swedish author of Serbian origin Alexandra Stratimirovic. According Stratimirovic the exhibition offers insight into contemporary Swedish lights design of five leading companies. „Apple Land“ aus Dubai hat den Bau einer neuen Lagereinrichtung für Äpfel in der Gegend um Resen (Mazedonien) begonnen, wo es eine hohe Konzentration an Obstfeldern gibt, insbesondere Apfelbäume, die besonders für ihre hohe Qualität bekannt sind. Die Arbeiten wurden in Anwesenheit von Ljupco Dimovski, vom Landwirtschaftsministerium, gestartet. Wie von „Ice“ zitiert, berichtete das „GreenMed Journal“, dass die Anfangsinvestition mindestens 5 Millionen EUR betragen wird. „Apple Land“ will Berichten zufolge mazedonische Äpfel in arabische Länder exportieren, angefangen mit Dubai, Katar, Jemen und andere Länder des Mittleren Ostens.
