Fule: Macedonia could begin EU accession talks by mid-2013

Bild
It is possible that Macedonia launches the EU integration process in mid-2013, says Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule in an interview with Austrian daily "Kleine Zeitung", Greek media report on Thursday. According to him, Macedonia and Serbia could start their Union integration in mid-2013, adding this still depends from member-states. "The two main pillars of the EU since its establishment - enlargement and integration - represent an incentive for the Union and its citizens", says Fule. He stresses that although focus is now given to the settlement of the financial and debt crisis in Europe, the enlargement process is not a problem, but always part of the solution.

VMRO-DPMNE rejects SDSM proposal for postponing of local elections

Bild
Ruling VMRO-DPMNE reiterates that there is no possibility for any agreement to be reached with the opposition SDSM on early elections, nor for postponing the date of local poll. However, VMRO-DPMNE offers an opportunity to SDSM, if the party agrees by 19.00h on Friday, a legal 3-4 day-extension for submission of councillor and mayoral lists, the ruling party says in response to SDSM press conference. This move aims to leave no room to (SDSM leader Branko) Crvenkovski to say that there is no time for preparing the councillor lists or, if necessary, for possible amending of the Electoral Law in line with the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations and hence for him to present an additional excuse before citizens to not take part in the local elections, the VMRO-DPMNE said in a press release. If this offer is refused, it will be clear that Crvenkovski wishes to avoid the elections, works in favor of somebody else, fights for his career, setting aside the state interests, the press rele...

Bild
Österreich - Makedonien Freundschaft Facebook Gruppe Macedonia's European future is clear and the country should launch EU accession negotiations in June. Ivanov: NATO has made Macedonia a Guinness candidate

Bild
Slowing down the Balkans' EU integration creates room for potential conflicts. If problems are tied to a territory, a conflict emerges. If EU opens its space, the problem of borders is overcome since they would disappear, stressed Saturday President Gjorge Ivanov at the session on Security and Stability in Southeastern Europe and the Caucasus, held in the framework of the 49. Munich Security Conference. According to Ivanov, if EU has enlargement fatigue, then the Balkan youth is tired of waiting. "If certain standards and principles are valid for the EU founders, then they should also be valid for future members. Rules cannot change during the game. That is why we are hurt by the fact that rules valid for other countries do not concern us, since there are additional criteria for Macedonia", stressed Ivanov.
