The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) Perth/Western Australia Branch announced Friday a special campaign "Australia, Recognise Macedonia Today! Prime Minister Gillard, Do The Right Thing!" to draw public attention to Australia's lack of full diplomatic recognition of Macedonia's rightful and constitutional name - the Republic of Macedonia. UMD says that Australia is home to the largest Macedonian émigré community outside of Macedonia. The Macedonian language is one of the most widely spoken languages in Australia.  Thousands of flyers, calling on Australian citizens to show solidarity with the Australian-Macedonian community in urging Australia's leadership to recognise Macedonia, have been printed and distributed throughout Perth, Western Australia. UMD Perth/Western Australia urges Prime Minister Julia Gillard to end a 20 year policy of treating the Australian Macedonian community as second-class citizens, siding with those who deny one's right to self-de...

Brussels reported how many minorities were recruited in the administration and the fact that no further hirings are needed. " The total number of minorities working for the administration has passed the 30% mark, which is more than satsfactory for the demographic structure of the country ", says in the EU report. EIN GESPRÄCH MIT KORNELIJA UTEVSKA-GLIGOROVSKA, DER MAKEDONISCHEN BOTSCHAFTERIN BF Sie sind seit 2010 Botschafterin der Republik Makedonien in Berlin. Wo liegt Ihr besonderer Arbeitsschwerpunkt?

Ivanov Slams EU Hypocrites for excluding "Macedonian"

Bild
Absence of adjective "Macedonian" in the European Commission Progress Report deeply offends the feelings of Macedonian citizens due to the manner of naming the language and ethnic affiliation, which represent issues of observing elementary human rights and human dignity, says President Gjorge Ivanov in the letter addressed to EC President Jose Manuel Barroso. "I sincerely regret to address you for the second time over a problem, for which I feel the obligation and commitment as President towards Macedonian citizens. I would like to express my dissatisfaction from the selective application of United Nations guidelines reflected in the European Commission report. We have discussed this topic on several occasions and I feel obliged to again express my dissatisfaction from the absence and failure to use the adjective 'Macedonian' in the EC report", says Ivanov. The UN has listed the language and people as Macedonian, however the EU has refused to use it since...

EU Sends Report for "Your Country"

Bild
The European Commission has confirmed for the third year running the recommendation for start of Macedonia's accession negotiations with the European Union, whereas the name row settlement is crucial for their beginning, Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule said at Wednesday's press conference in Brussels while presenting conclusions from the country's 2011 Progress Report. "We maintain our recommendation to open accession negotiations. The prospect of European Union accession has been a driver of the reform process. However, there has been little progress over the past year. Core challenges remain, notably: independence of the judiciary, reform of public administration and fighting corruption. Freedom of expression remains a serious concern", said Fule. This report may not necessarily be for Macedonia, since the name of the country is not mentioned anywhere. Fule explained Brussels is being consistent in not mentioning the name. Though Fule is fairly consisten...

World Bank: Macedonia has best Macroeconomics in the Region

Bild
Jane Armitage of the World Bank has pointed to the low indebtedness of Macedonia in the public sector as a factor of solid macroeconomic policy.  "Macedonia has a very low indebtedness in the public sector, between 25 and 26 percent, compared to regional countries with 46-percent and even 60-percent indebtedness. Due to longstanding solid macroeconomic policy, Macedonia is more resistant to new crises. Its fiscal deficit of some 25 percent is significantly lower than the deficit of neighbouring countries. This is a good position in times when the situation could become even worse," Armitage explained.  She added that Macedonia should not be competitive by cheap labour force because this implies low standard of living. Moreover, highly qualified employees should be created since they would be competitive and would contribute to export.

Venture Capital Firms Spring up in Macedonia

Bild
There is little chance that banks would finance a project in times of crisis. However, businesspeople can turn to another form of support - business angels, also known as venture capitalists, says the head of Pikon Group Tose Kocevski. These Business angels or VCs, who provide capital for staring up a business, appeared in Macedonia six months ago.  Apart from getting financial support, creating a new business idea is the key factor in setting up business. Experienced and successful businesspeople in Macedonia see enormous potential in young businesspeople in the country, but they say perseverance and the use of foreign experience is very important.

Vardar and Rabotnicki will temporarily move home matches

Bild
Vardar and Rabotnicki will likely need to move their home matches to another stadium due to pitch restorations at the Philip II Arena. After the recent stadium expansion and renovation, the National Arena Philip II of Macedon, formerly known as Skopje City Stadium, got a modern and exciting look. Now, new works are scheduled for the upcoming months. Right after the national team's match against Slovakia on 11 October to conclude the EURO 2012 qualifications, work should start for repairing the pitch and the grass itself. That would mean that both Skopje clubs, Vardar and Rabotnicki, who play their home matches at the venue, will need to find a replacement stadium. These works have still not been officially confirmed, but it is clear that they must occur so both teams are already considering where they will play their next home matches. For example, Macedonia scheduled a friendly against Albania in November but the match will be played in Prilep. The national team always pl...
