In Makedonien wird im Luftverkehr seit Markteinstieg von Billigfluggesellschaften ein expontielles Wachstum beobachtet. Die Anziehung der Low-Cost-Airlines erfolgte durch gezielte Subventionierung seitens der Regierung in Skopje.  Nach jüngsten Angaben der makedonischen Zivilluftfahrtbehörde (CAA) verzeichnete der Skopjer Hauptstadtflughafen "Alexander der Große" in den vergangenen vier Jahren einen Zuwachs der abgefertigten Fluggäste um 40 Prozent.  Im vergangenen Jahr erreichte Makedoniens wichtigster Flughafen nahezu die 1-Million-Marke hinsichtlich der Zahl der Passagiere. Es waren zum Ende des Jahres 920.000 Fluggäste gezählt worden. 

This year the Macedonian Government falls to budget deficit of astonishing EUR 315 million, although according to the initial plan, the deficit was set at EUR 297 million, Utrinski daily reads. This increased deficit, which the government has adopted at a session last week, has been projected in the this year's budget balance. According to FM Nikola Poposki, Macedonia should not expect any movement in the name issue without a political motivation in Greece and a concrete involvement of the major NATO and EU members. “Currently, the biggest limiting factor is that there is almost no political motive in Greece in terms of seriously sitting down and seeking a resolution to this issue,” he stressed. He added that the reasons for that situation are obvious - because the political focus is on the domestic stage and the challenges Greece is faced with, especially the ones in relation to the eurozone crisis. “In addition, it’s obvious that they want to avoid this issue and to continue the path of not making a decision in both NATO and the EU, and delaying both the solution and the progress as regards membership and the start of negotiations. Macedonia has officially become a full-fledged participant in the European Union 'Creative Europe' programme. Andrej Lepavcov, Head of Macedonia's Mission to the European Union in Brussels, and Jan Truszczynski, Director General of the European Commission DG for Education and Culture, signed Tuesday an agreement on the country's accession to the programme. Creative Europe is the EC's new 2014 - 2020 framework programme for support to the culture and media sectors. Five largest exporters in Macedonia are Johnson Matthey, Feni Industry, Jugohrom Feroalojs Sasa and Buchim. While the five largest importers are Johnson Matthey who import car parts, oil refinery companies Okta and Lukoil, EFT Macedonia which trades with electricity and ELEM. According to preliminary data of the State Statistical Office, the total value of goods exports from the Republic of Macedonia in the period January-December 2013 was  4,266,861 thousand U.S. dollars, while import was 6.599, 824 thousands U.S. dollars. Macedonia's national football team is placed 74. at the latest FIFA rankings, advancing six spots from last month's list. World champions Germany have taken the top spot, followed by World Cup finalists Argentina and third-placed Netherlands. "Alexander the Great" and "St. Paul the Apostle", the two airports managed by TAV Macedonia, have recorded a steady growth in the number of passengers, in the first half of 2014, Zoran Krstevski, general manager of "TAV Macedonia" announced.  From January to June their services were used by 559,779 passengers, which is an increase of 18,5 percent compared to last year. Only a month and a half before his assignment to one of the most powerful European countries, the appointed Macedonian Ambassador to Germany, Nenad Kolev, has resigned. At the same time, he also quit the position of a Director of Economic Diplomacy within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Unofficially, the resignation was submitted July 9 because of disagreements with the Macedonian Chief of Diplomacy, Nikola Poposki. Differences in terms of the latest preparations prior to the ambassador's departure to Germany were some of the reasons. Within six years, all internet users in Macedonia, regardless of whether they are in urban or rural areas, will be able to access the internet at a speed not less than 30 Mbps, according to the regulations for the construction of public electronic communications networks and associated facilities, adopted by the country's Agency for Electronic Communications (AEK), reports Kapital.  Currently in Macedonia, only 3.61 percent of users have access to the internet at speeds greater than 30 Mbps. Statistics show that the export from the zones in the first six months of this year is more than EUR 550 million, which means the amount is doubled compared to the same period in 2013, says the director of the Directorate for Industrial Development Zones, Viktor Mizo. Vier Menschen sind beim Absturz eines Mi-17 Hubschraubers in der Nähe der makedonischen Stadt Strumica ums Leben gekommen. Die Maschine ist am Donnerstagabend aus ungeklärten Gründen gegen einen Mast geprallt und in Flammen aufgegangen, Augenzeugen berichteten das der Hubschrauber sichtliche Probleme hatte und dann gegen einen Masten prallte. Vor kurzem schockte der makedonische Fußballverband FFM den Traditionsreichen Klub Pelister aus Bitola. Das altehrwürdige Stadion Tumbe Kafe ist als nicht Erstliga tauglich eingestuft und laut Regularien können somit keine Erstliga Spiele mehr in diesem Stadion am Rande des Parks in Bitola statt finden. In den folgenden Bildern könnt ihr den katastrophalen Zustand sehen. Das Stadion wurde 1937 eröffnet und 1980 renoviert und mit neuen Tribünen erweitert. Die Kapazität beträgt 8.000 Zuschauer. Auch hatte man versucht den Klub, der von der Stadt geführt wird, zu verkaufen - jedoch meldete sich kein einziger Interessent bei zwei öffentliche Ausschreibungen.

A little-known Balkan food product has been introduced to the global marketplace by British chef Philip Evans. The entrepreneur is exporting his own-recipe premium “ajvar”, a red pepper relish, manufactured in Macedonia, to 13 countries worldwide. Evans first came across the product when he moved to Macedonia with his wife Anna in 2009, after she took a job with a local NGO. Ajvar is a household staple across the Balkan states, and many families have recipes that go back generations. “Everyone’s auntie makes the best variety,” he says. “People are so passionate about the stuff here.”

Parties need political education of what in fact means Macedonia’s accession to the EU and the "Europeanization" as process. They should also engage in the ideological network at European level, because such contacts and socialization will help them become more European as well, the Macedonian Center for European Education (MCEE) concluded in a study, announcing its results today at the Conference's ending session. A debate on European values with wider involvement of the citizens and the return of European integrations into the parties’ political agendas is also a necessity, the report stresses.  The study's results indicate that the process of essential "Europeanization" of the political and social system in Macedonia is facing a crisis and compared to seven years ago, the attitude about the EU has completely changed, as  currently, joining the EU has become a synonym of identity issues, while the bloc itself is being accused of double standards. ...

Nach tagelangen gewalttätigen Protesten von Albanern in Mazedonien hat Regierungschef Nikola Gruevski eine harte Hand angekündigt. « Der Staat wird nicht zulassen, dass diese Proteste sich soweit ausweiten, dass sie die Interessen von Bürgern und Institutionen bedrohen », sagte der Premierminister am Montag in der Hauptstadt Skopje. Die mazedonische Rundfunk- und Fernsehanstalt und das Bulgarische Staatsfernsehen (BNT) haben in Ohrid einen Vertrag über die Ausstrahlung der Programme beider Fernsehanstalten in beiden Ländern unterzeichnet. Die Kabelanbieter können diese Programme kostenlos ausstrahlen. Auch wird das bulgarische Staatsfernsehen BNT mit mehreren mazedonischen Kabelanbietern Verträge über die Aufnahme des BNT-Satellitenprogramms in ihre Pakete unterzeichnen. Im Westen Mazedoniens ist es zu Ausschreitungen zwischen ethnischen Albanern und der Polizei gekommen. Rund 600 Jugendliche protestierten in der Stadt Tetovo gegen die Verurteilung von sechs Muslimen zu lebenslangen Haftstrafen und bewarfen Beamte mit Steinen. Die Polizei setzte Blendgranaten ein, um die Menge aufzulösen. Die Proteste hatten am Freitag begonnen, nachdem die sechs Muslime für den Mord an fünf Christen verurteilt worden waren. 

Three engineers working for an Italian construction company in Libya have likely been kidnapped, a government official said on Sunday, Reuters reports. The vehicle of the Italian, Macedonian and Bosnian engineers was found abandoned in the town of Zuwara, west of the capital Tripoli, an official in the local town council told Reuters. "They are missing, and we suspect they have been kidnapped," the official said. No further details were immediately available. Hundred farms in Macedonia will be provided with free software to monitor production in a bid to boost quality and yield. By using information and communication technology, farmers will also have an insight into profits eliminating any possibilities for manipulation during purchase of products. This is envisaged by a project for which a memorandum of cooperation was signed Friday by the Federation of Farmers, the Agency for Agriculture Promotion and Development, and Slovenia’s Datalab company. The project aims at advanced farm management through bookkeeping, good agricultural practices and registering agro technical measures. The Bank of the Republic of Macedonia is a suggestion for the new name of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, envisaged in the latest constitutional amendments. According to the Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, Dimitar Bogov, there are such examples in the international practice. "The new name option prevails. There is, in the world, the Bank of France, the Bank of Spain, the Bank of England, thus this nomination dominates," Bogov stated. He added that with the change of the name, the bills as well will undergo a change, but that process will take place gradually, with printing new bills when the use of the old ones will expire because of being warned out.
