Mit seinem Projekt für eine Android-App sicherte sich CodeWell den begehrten Preis beim Start-Up-Festival Pioneers in Wien. Es müsste jemanden geben, der an die wichtigen und weniger wichtigen Dinge des Lebens erinnert und zwar zur richtigen Zeit am richtigen Ort – also eine Art virtueller, aber unaufdringlicher Begleiter. Von dieser Idee waren die Besucher des Pioneers-Festival in Wien dermaßen begeistert, dass das mazedonische Entwickler-Team CodeWell den Community Award 2014 für ihr „MarkO“-Projekt gewinnen konnte –  sie wollen eine App entwickeln, die genau diese Funktionen haben soll. Dieser Award, der von Styria Digital gesponsert wurde, war sozusagen der Publikumspreis bei dem Start-Up-Festival, das am Mittwoch und Donnerstag in der Wiener Hofburg über die Bühne ging und sich längst einen Ruf als eine der weltweit wichtigsten Veranstaltungen dieser Art gemacht hat. Macedonian industrial output rose continuously this year, reaching a record rate of growth in September, new data show, BIRN reports. Industrial output in Macedonia in September rose by 9.1 per cent in comparison with the same period last year, data show. This is the biggest growth since the country exited the economic downturn in 2012. The industrial production index over the period January-September 2014, in comparison to the same period last year, was higher by 4.8 per cent, data from the State Statistical Office show. The upturn is mainly a result of growth in the production of chemical products, mining and quarrying and the processing industry. However, the biggest growth - 46.5 per cent - compared to September last year was in the tobacco industry. Die deutsche ODW Elektrik möchte im Frühjahr 2015 mit dem Bau einer 10.000 m² großen Fertigungsstätte in der Industriezone Ohrid-Struga in Makedonien beginnen. Somit sollen 1.000 Arbeitsplätze geschaffen werden.  Der Investor hatte bereits eine Testproduktionslage in Ohrid gestartet, wo 25 Menschen beschäftigt werden. Zusätzliche 100 Mitarbeiter sollen bis Jahresende eingestellt werden. Die Ausfuhren der ersten in Makedonien erzeugten Produkte werden voraussichtlich bis Jahresende oder zu Beginn 2015 beginnen. Einzelheiten über die Aktivitäten hinsichtlich der Realisierung der Investition wurden Anfang Oktober im Rahmen einer Pressekonferenz präsentiert, an der der Leiter des Direktorats der Industrie- und Technologiezonen Viktor Mizo, ODW-Geschäftsführer Ludwig Bathon, ODW Elektrik – CEO Ognen Cubalevski und der Bürgermeister von Ohrid Nikola Bakraceski teilnahmen.

Four Macedonian and two Croatian companies will invest a total of 10 million euro ($12.6 million) in several projects in the Ilinden municipality, near Skopje, the local authorities said on Monday. Croatia’s Atlantic Trade will build a 2.0 million euro distribution logistics centre, while truck importer MAN Importer also plans to invest 2.0 million euro in a sales-service centre, the municipality of Ilinden said in a statement on its website. Syke. Wenn sich Eisbären und Bären in ferne Länder aufmachen, wird dort schon mal die Nationalhymne gespielt. So passierte es vor einem Freundschaftsspiel einer gemischten Basketball-Jugendmannschaft der U14 des TuS Syke und der Eisbären Bremerhaven im serbischen Bujanovac. Organisiert hatte den fünftägigen Trip Dejan Stojanovski, der nicht nur die Basketball-Akademie Bremen-Süd betreibt, sondern auch Jugendtrainer bei den Syke Bears ist. Die Telekom Austria (TA) kauft in Mazedonien zu. Dort übernehme der Konzern die mazedonische Tochter der Telekom Slovenije, teilte die TA heute mit. Eine entsprechende Vereinbarung sei unterzeichnet worden. Im Zuge des Deals will die TA ihre mazedonische Tochter mit jener der Telekom Slovenije fusionieren. Geplant ist, dass die TA künftig 55 Prozent an dem neuen Unternehmen sowie die alleinige Kontrolle halten soll. Die restlichen 45 Prozent kann der slowenische Rivale innerhalb von drei Jahren an die TA verkaufen. Angaben zum Preis machte der Konzern nicht. Die TA steht mehrheitlich in Besitz des mexikanischen Telekomkonzerns America Movil, der wiederum dem Milliardär Carlos Slim gehört. America Movil will das Europageschäft über Zukäufe ausbauen - auch mit Hilfe der TA.

The German company “Kromberg & Schubert” will soon begin construction of its 23 factory in the world. The new factory will be built in Bitola, particularly in the industrial zone Zhabeni, located near to the border crossing Medzitlija with neighboring Greece, writes Nova Makedonija. The main railway station in the Macedonian capital Skopje will be fully renovated by May, with better infrastructure and a new look. Irfan Asani, Infrastructure Director for Macedonian Railways, says that the planned investment will improve the technical standards of the station and make it more functional. The project was prepared by the German Grontmij engineering company and it is expected to cost a total of EUR 2,9 million, provided by the European Union IPA program.  “This station, that was put in operation 33 years ago, was the most modern transportation center not only in Macedonia, but in the Balkans. It used to service 70 trains and 7.000 passengers daily, and its unique look represented the height of architecture at the time. But, since then, not a single investment was done to the station. Recently was put in use the first part of the reconstructed boulevard “Third Macedonian Brigade” in Aerodrom and city officials are already preparing for the second phase expansion of the section, in which will be built two new lanes to Tobacco company premisses. It is already announced call for preparation of the project relating to the move from the point where the first phase ended, which is the gas station near the high school “Dimitar Vlahov” in Micurin to the junction with Tobacco Company. The length of section is about 1.2 km, writes Dnevnik. After completion of the work, we will get whole new boulevard of 2.5 kilometers in the eastern part of the city, which will allow fast and smooth flow of vehicles from Lisiche and Aerodrom to the central area. The European Commission (EC) has recommended, for the sixth consecutive year, that negotiations should be opened with Macedonia. “The Progress Report on the Republic of Macedonia is part of the 2014 Enlargement Package adopted by the European Commission on 8 October. Das türkische Unternehmen Dempo Group will zwei Produktionsstätten in Makedonien errichten. Dort sollen künftig 300 Arbeitsplätze entstehen. Dem Plan nach werden im ersten Werk Verpackungen produziert. Dort sollen 3 Mio. US-Dollar investiert werden. In den zweiten Produktionsbetrieb, wo Marmor und Mosaiken hergestellt werden, sollen zwischen 2,5 Mio. und 3 Mio. US-Dollar fließen.  Eigentümer Muzaffer Polat offenbarte die Pläne des Unternehmens nach einem Treffen mit Ministerpräsident Nikola Gruevski. Er war mit einer Regierungsdelegation in der Türkei um die Vorteile des Investitionsstandortes Makedonien vorzustellen.

Macedonian capital, infrastructure investments, have risen to a record level of 21,2 billion denars, or 340 million EUR. This puts them at twice the levels they were in 2005 - 10,1 billion denars. The rise has been gradual in the past years - in 2011, capital investments allotment in the budget amounted to 17,7 billion, in 2012 it was 18,75 billion and in 2013 the amount reached 19,3 billion denars. The planned funding for 2015 includes work on three major capital investments - the Demir Kapija - Smokvica north - south highway, the Miladinovci - Stip - east - west highway and the Kicevo - Ohrid highway connecting two major cities in the Macedonian south-west. The total length of the new highways is 132 kilometers, and two of them are being built with Chinese provided credit lines. Die Tschechische Republik unterstützt den Beitritt Mazedoniens in die Europäische Union und die Nato. Das erklärte Ministerpräsident Bohuslav Sobotka am Donnerstag nach dem Treffen mit seinem mazedonischen Amtskollegen Nikola Gruevski in Prag. Sobotka versicherte seinem Gast zudem, dass Tschechien darauf eingestellt sei, den Mazedoniern auf ihrem Weg zu beiden Bündnissen zu helfen. Nach Aussage von Gruevski sei sein Land für die Verhandlungen zum Beitritt in die EU und die Nato gut vorbereitet. Wegen eines Streits mit Griechenland aber seien die entsprechenden Gespräche immer noch nicht begonnen worden. Dabei besitzt Mazedonien bereits seit 2005 den Status eines EU-Kandidatenlands. Die Beitrittsverhandlungen werden jedoch weiterhin von Griechenland blockiert. Der Grund: Die Griechen entrüsten sich darüber, dass ihr nördlicher Nachbarstaat seit seiner Selbständigkeit den Landesnamen Mazedonien trägt. Regarding the recent announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece concerning the talks on the name difference taking place under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Macedonia, denies that declared Greek position in talks to find a solution which consists of a name for general use (erga omnes) is based on existing and applicable international law and that the use of the constitutional name of Macedonia in these contexts in announcements means violated international law.  In this regard, the Ministry refers to Resolution 817 (1993) of the Security Council of the UN noting a difference in terms of the country's name to be overcome in the interest of maintenance of peaceful and good neighborly relations in the region and provides a way how temporary will be called Republic of Macedonia within the United Nations.

It is the first international debating tournament in British Parliamentary Style (BPS) in Macedonia: Skopje Open will take place on the weekend of November 7-9, 2014. Up to 32 teams can register now. The tournament costs €50 per participant, including accommodation in a hotel and three meals per day, organiser Milka Gerovska says. For people arriving early because they directly come from Thessaloniki Open on the preceding weekend, the organisers will provide with crash accommodation or a cheap hostel. The convener of the tournament is the skopje open 2014Youth Educational Forum (YEF), an NGO that has organized many debate competitions before, more than 30 on the national and 8 on the international level. Macedonia is seriously considering getting involved in the construction of fast railroad track, which will start in Budapest, via Belgrade and Skopje to Thessaloniki and Athens, reads daily Dnevnik. The Chinese government is interested in funding this project, and together with Hungarian and Serbian authorities has already been negotiating for granting a loan. Although official information has not been given yet, government sources for Dnevnik daily explain that our country is considering involvement in the project, because it will be only a benefit. Among other things and most probably as there will be no need to build completely new rail line, which would be passing through the country. Only reconstruction and upgrading of the existing network, which is part of Corridor 10 would be needed, therefore the benefit is even bigger.
