Sources report that Casino Austria joins with Macedonia Gov for gaming

The Faculty of Civil Engineering got Laboratory unique in the region

US Senators McCain and Murphy support Macedonia’s NATO accession

Bogdanci - First windmills in Macedonia placed

Five of the 16 planned windmills are placed on the locations near Bogdanci. The start of electricity production from the first state wind park in Macedonia is expected in April. ELEM announced that 16 windmills in Bogdanci will produce electricity for about 15,000 households, or a total of 60,000 citizens. Specifically, the annual production of the park should reach 100 gigawatt – hours of wind energy, which is 2 percent of the annual production of electricity in Macedonia, Nova Makedonija writes.

Government decided to establish a State Clinic of cardiac surgery

The Government of the Republic of Macedonia at the last session decided to establish a State cardiac surgery. This was at the press conference by the Minister of Health Nikola Todorov. He said that the state cardio surgery will firstly be located within the Surgical Clinics, until the implementation of the tender and construction work for the reconstruction of the Clinic for Cardiology completes. At the start, the State cardio surgery will consist of a reception area, ambulance part, stationary with 6 beds, two operating rooms and seven beds for intensive care. The Minister pointed out that the first time after 50 years in the Republic of Macedonia, the Government has established the first state cardio surgery, which solves the multi- decade problem, which is one of national medical priorities.

Goce Delcev Library in Gevgelija has been restored

The facade of a house – the home of the Goce Delcev Library in Gevgelija – has gotten back its authentic look after being restored and conserved by a team of experts last year. The overhauled facility, dating from the late 19th century, was one of the 250 buildings included in the Culture Ministry’s programme for restoration of old facades. “I’m pleased that the genuine architectural appeal of the facility has been restored. This year the interior will be furnished as part of the second stage of the project,” said Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska after visiting the overhauled premises. The building has been functioning as a library since World War II. ‘Goce Delcev’ is the only public library in Gevgelija offering 60.000 books to over 800 members. Genesis Resources secures some funding for Plavica gold project, Macedonia

Genesis Resources (ASX:GES) has entered into a subscription agreement with an unrelated sophisticated investor to raise $1 million. Under the Placement, the investor will subscribe for a total of 11,764,706 ordinary shares in Genesis, which will represent 7.1% of the Company’s enlarged share capital, at an issue price of $0.085 per share. Funds will be used to sustain its drilling and exploration programs in Macedonia and in Australia, as well as to facilitate cash flow requirements. Plavica is Genesis' flagship project, hosting JORC Mineral Resource of 1.65 million ounces of gold at 0.9 grams per tonne gold. Also included are an Inferred silver resource estimate of 28.2 million ounces at 15.3 grams per tonne, and an Inferred copper resource of 32.7 million pounds at 0.28%.  The project is located in the Kratovo District of north-eastern Macedonia, 65 kilometres to the east of the capital, Skopje. Genesis is capitalised at around $13 million.

EBRD improved the forecast for Macedonian GDP growth

Macedonian economy improved in 2013. It is noticed annually rising at average of 3.4 % in the first three quarters of 2013, mainly due to growth in investment and exports recovery. Inflation fell and the country continues to make efforts to attract necessary foreign investment, which should contribute to economic growth in the coming years. This is EBRD economist’s estimation for the Macedonian economy. European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in its latest report forecasts slow recovery of the economies in the countries where it is present, improvement of the situation in most developed economies, including the U.S. and the euro zone. EBRD economists on global level for this year predict modest growth of 2.7 %, which coincides with their November projection, but it is increasing, because in 2013 the growth rate was 2 %. Macedonia holds rate, sees risk of lower inflation

Macedonia's central bank maintained its monetary policy stance, including the main interest rate at 3.25 percent, but said there were downward risks to inflation given that inflationary pressures have been lower than expected in recent months and import prices have the potential to decline further. The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia (NMRM), which cut its rate by 25 basis points in 2013, also said indicators for the last quarter showed that the country's economy would continue to grow, probably at a rate similar to the third quarter. This view is largely based on favorable developments in construction and industrial activity. Macedonia's Gross Domestic Product expanded by an annual 3.3 percent in the third quarter, down from 3.5 percent in the second quarter. New investment in Kocani, 1500 new jobs

American corporation “Amphenol” a new foreign investor in Macedonia to invest EUR six million in the first phase and employ 1,500 people in the first five years. The plant will be located in Kocani. The investment was announced today by the Prime Minister and the Vice President of the American corporation “Amphenol” and CEO of the Automotive Group at Amphenol Corporation John Treanor. The corporation has already hired 70 people in manufacturing of automotive parts. 250 to 350 people will be employed this year. Concessionaire will build the highway to Kosovo

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has signed an agreement with the international financial institution IFC, which should prepare the documentation for a tender for concession of the highway Skopje – Blace. The tender for selection of a concessionaire is expected to be released after the presidential election. 13 km road needs to be built to Blace and the concession is likely to be offered on 35 years. With the construction of this section, Skopje will connect to the border with Kosovo with a highway. The route starts from the Skopje Ringroad and moves towards the border with Kosovo at Blace. The road has a total length of 13 kilometers and is part of the main route from Skopje to Pristina. The total width of the road is projected to be 27.4 meters with two- lane road with two lanes in one direction, 3.75 meters long each, and a stopping lane of 2.5 meters, as well as the shared lane road between the two roads. The hydroelectric power plant “Spilje” produced 57 percent more electricity than forecasted

The hydroelectric power plant “Spilje” in Debar last year produced 395 million kilowatt hours of electricity which is 57 percent more than the annual plan. Last year’s production was higher for 156 million kilowatt hours than the previous year. This, officials say, is due to favorable hydrological conditions of Debar catchment area which includes Radica and Black Drim rivers, especially in the period from February to May, and optimization of the production facilities. - The annual plan of 252 million kilowatt -hours was realized in mid- summer. In 44 years of existence, the historical record of production of about 500 million kilowatt –hours, was achieved four years ago, due to the extremely favorable hydrology, said from “Spilje”. The “Lake Debar” reservoir currently has reserves for production of over 40 million kilowatt hours, and the average inflow is 21 cubic meter of water per second.

Online games of chance coming to Macedonia

In late March or early April, online games of chance will be organized in Macedonia. For that purpose, a foreign company has been already chosen to invest in the project. The games will be organized by a domestic entity - the newly-founded State Video Lottery. The company 'Austria Casino' was chosen at an international public call to attract a foreign capital for the realization of this business endeavor, government spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgiev told a news conference on Thursday adding the company should invest six million euros in the project. The State Video Lottery will be established by two partners - 'Austria Casino' and Macedonia's State Lottery retaining 51 percent of the ownership. “Johnson Controls” opens factory in TIRZ “Stip”

“Johnson Controls” will open today a new factory in the Technological Industrial Development Zone in Stip. The factory covers an area of 12,000 Square meters, will employ over 1,400 people, an investment worth EUR 20 million. Car seats and seat covers will be produced. Representatives of “Johnson Controls”, the Macedonian Government and the U.S. Embassy will attend the plant opening. This is the second factory of “Johnson Controls” in Macedonia. The first is located in the industrial zone “Bunardzik”. “Johnson Controls” is a world giant in cars equipment manufacturing. It is present in 150 countries and has a total of 154,000 employees.

Macedonia: Father and son shot dead in Skopje’s Chair quarter

Skopje. A citizens of Skopje’s Chair quarter shot down two of his neigbours - father and a son, Macedonian Dnevnik daily reported. The incident occurred on Sunday morning. The two victims Aladin Airedini (56) and Mustafa Airedini (27) went to the slayer’s house. They had quarreled earlier. The killer opened the door and immediately began shooting at them. The man was arrested by the police. 

Reconstructed road section Struga-Debar put into use

Regional road section Struga-Debar was put into use Saturday, with an investment worth MKD 580 million . -Road section Struga- Debar is the most significant road section which was constructed in the past period in this part of Macedonia. It was in very bad conditions, with reduced security. Today we can pleasingly say that it is totally reconstructed, bettering the conditions for driving, communication and the life of the citizens who pass through here daily. I am sure that the new road will contribute towards improvement of the local trade, development of the tourism, the transporters, the agriculturalists, manufacturers, merchants, as well as enhancement of the regional and economic cooperation between Macedonia and Albania, said Prime Minister Gruevski at the Vranista Village near Struga before putting into use the road section Struga-Debar.

First 5m euro investment in TIRZ Tetovo

The Italian company Itec, which manufactures composite materials, is expected to start constructing a new facility in the industrial zone (TIRZ) located in Tetovo. This investment, worth 5 million euros, is expected to create 150 new jobs in the first two years. "This is the first investment to be realized in TIRZ Tetovo. Itec will realize the investment in the Tetovo area through the local company "PRO COMP ADVANCE TECHNOLOGIES". Howitt: EP Resolution will include “Macedonian”

European Parliament Rapporteur for Macedonia Richard Howitt, in a statement for MIA, confirmed that he is under enormous pressure for adjective “Macedonian” to be erased from the Resolution, however he confirmed that he will do his best for the adjective to be reinstated in the document. British PM submitted biggest number of amendments (25) to his own draft-resolution, whereat in the amendment 89 paragraph 1, himself requests erasing of the adjective “Macedonian”, expressing concern ‘as it seems that less young people learn the language of the other’ and recommends for the matter to be addressed in favour of avoiding division and possible conflicts along ethnic lines between the school children. -There are amendments added for the progress in participation of groups of civil society in the country and my dialogue with them. Bern, 15.01.2014 - Der Bundesrat hat am 15. Januar 2014 beschlossen, Mazedonien für den Bau einer Kläranlage eine nicht rückzahlbare Finanzhilfe im Umfang von 21 Millionen Franken zu gewähren. Die Schweiz unterstützt das Land damit bei der Umsetzung seiner Umweltschutzziele. Die Flüsse und Seen in Mazedonien sind zum Teil stark verschmutzt. Dies gefährdet die Trinkwasserversorgung der Bevölkerung und hemmt die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung des Landes. Die mazedonische Regierung unternimmt deshalb grosse Anstrengungen, um die Wasserqualität zu verbessern. Eine wirkungsvolle Massnahme ist der Bau von Kläranlagen. Die Investitionen für den Bau solcher Anlagen übersteigen aber die finanziellen Kapazitäten der Gemeinden und der mazedonischen Regierung. Eine externe finanzielle Unterstützung  ist daher notwendig. Kristian Wigenin: Bulgarien unterstützt Mazedonien auf seinem Weg in die EU

Außenminister Kristian Wigenin erklärte heute in Skopje, Sofia unterstütze den europäischen Weg Mazedoniens, die Probleme mit den benachbarten Staaten, konkret mit Griechenland und Bulgarien, müssten jedoch gelöst werden. Wigenin betonte, die Verhandlungen zum Vertrag über gute Nachbarschaft und Zusammenarbeit zwischen Mazedonien und Bulgarien würden fortgeführt. Dabei erwarte er in absehbarer Zeit konkrete Ergebnisse. Wenn parallel dazu auch die Probleme mit Griechenland beigelegt würden, könnten die EU-Beitrittsverhandlungen mit Mazedonien sehr schnell aufgenommen werden, fügte der Minister hinzu. Der mazedonische Außenminister Nikola Poposki verwies seinerseits auf den Dialog zum Nachbarschaftsvertrag und betonte, man sei gesprächsbereit und erörtere Themen, zu denen es unterschiedliche Auffassungen gäbe. Teknohose is opening new factory in Bunardzik – 150 new employments

Italian company Vitek, part of the Teknohose Group, which last year opened a factory in the economic zone Bunardzik, for this year is planning to build a new factory.
