Capital investment for 10 years period increased by 280 percents

The realization of capital investment in 2014 is on the highest historical level of 21 billion, shows the fiscal table published by the Ministry of Finance. Together with the Agency for state roads, this figure was 28 billion. For comparison, ten years ago, or in 2005 the capital expenditure was 10 billion, and in 2006 was 9.6 billion. This means that capital investment was increased by 280 percents in the past ten years.

Last year will remain historic for Republic of Macedonia in terms of major infrastructure projects. In the area of road infrastructure, after decades begun construction of 104 kilometers of new motorway network. Started the construction of two new modern highways. One highway “Goce Delchev” leading from Skopje to Shtip with length of 47 kilometers and investment worth 206 million euro. Other highway “Mother Teresa” leading from Kichevo to Ohrid is the largest investment in the last 50 years. The construction of this highway 57 kilometers long cost 374 million euro. In 2014 continued the construction of the new motorway section Demir Kapija – Smokvica 28 km long, worth 219 million euro. The construction of these three highways present building of 132 km motorway network and 50 percent of the existing one.

Last year were built five regional roads and one high-speed road (Veles – Kadrifakovo) with total length of 83.4 kilometers and were built 70 local roads with total length of 125 kilometers.


In the area of railway infrastructure projects started the biggest so far, which means full connectivity to Albania and Bulgaria. The construction of the rail line from Kumanovo to Beljakovce worth 39 million euro. After 33 years began the reconstruction of the railway station in Skopje, worth 2.5 million euro.

Except in infrastructure in 2014 was invested in schools, kindergartens, cultural centers, libraries, water supply, and sewerage network, water treatment plants, sports fields and facilities and other capital projects. For the capital investments in the field of education, child protection and sport were allocated 2.4 billion from 2014 budget, for the construction of public hospitals, clinics in Skopje and Shtip 1.9 billion, for energy and infrastructure 1,3 billion MKD and for construction of technological and industrial development zones 505 million MKD, according to the Ministry of finance.
